The Book of Zephaniah

Zephaniah opens with the thunder of the coming Day of the LORD—a day of wrath against Judah's idolatry and complacency, and against the proud nations all around. Yet the same book that pictures the earth swept clean ends with God himself in the midst of his people, a mighty Savior who quiets them with his love and rejoices over them with singing. Between the warning and the wonder runs a single, hopeful summons: seek the LORD, seek righteousness, seek humility. Zephaniah points us to the Christ who would bear the storm of that day in our place, so that the remnant who take refuge in his name might know the joy of God's saving delight.
