The Book of Zechariah

Zechariah is the great encouragement of the prophets who returned from exile. To a discouraged remnant rebuilding a small temple, God sends visions in the night and oracles of hope, calling them back to himself and lifting their eyes far beyond their own day. Through a horseman among the myrtle trees, a high priest clothed in clean garments, a golden lampstand, and a man called the Branch, Zechariah promises that God has returned to Jerusalem with mercy. And again and again the book points forward to Christ—the righteous King who comes lowly on a donkey, the shepherd sold for thirty pieces of silver, the pierced one his people mourn, the fountain opened for sin, and the LORD who will be King over all the earth.
