The Book of Malachi
Malachi is the last word of the Old Testament, spoken to a tired, disappointed people who doubt that God still loves them. Through a series of disputes—over God's love, the priests' careless worship, broken marriages, robbed tithes, and harsh words against the Lord—God patiently answers his children's complaints and calls them back. The book ends looking forward: a messenger will prepare the way, the Lord will suddenly come to his temple, and for those who fear his name the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. Four hundred years of silence follow, until a voice cries in the wilderness and the promise begins to come true in Jesus Christ.
