The Book of Habakkuk
Habakkuk is the prophet who dares to argue with God. Confronted by violence and injustice among his own people, he cries out, “How long?”—and then waits to hear what God will say. God's answers are not what Habakkuk expects, and they lead him deeper into the heart of faith. Along the way comes one of the great verses of the Bible, “the righteous will live by his faith,” which the New Testament takes up to explain the gospel itself. The book moves from anguished complaint to settled trust, ending with a song of joy in the Lord even when the fig tree does not blossom and the fields yield no food.
