The Book of Colossians
Colossians is Paul's soaring letter about the greatness of Jesus Christ. Writing from prison to a young church he had never met, Paul lifts our eyes to the Son who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, the one through whom and for whom everything was made and in whom all things hold together. Against teachers who would add philosophy, rules, and rituals to the gospel, Paul insists that in Christ all the fullness of God dwells bodily, and that those joined to him are already complete. Because we have been raised with Christ, we are called to seek the things above, to put off the old self and put on the new, and to let his peace and word rule a community knit together in love. The letter is a feast on the supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus for every part of life.
