The Book of 2 Timothy

Second Timothy is the last letter we have from the apostle Paul, written from a cold prison cell as he awaits execution. With death near, he pours out his heart to his beloved son in the faith, urging Timothy to stir up the gift of God, to never be ashamed of the gospel or of Paul's chains, and to endure hardship like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. He warns of difficult days ahead and of people who abandon the truth, yet he anchors Timothy in the God-breathed Scriptures that equip the man of God for every good work. The letter rises to its famous charge—preach the word, in season and out of season—and to Paul's serene confidence as he nears the end: "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith." It points us to the faithful Savior who guards what we entrust to him until that day.
