The Book of 2 Thessalonians
Second Thessalonians is a short, urgent letter to a young church battered by persecution and unsettled by confusion about the end. Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy write to steady them: God's judgment is just, relief is coming when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven, and no rumor or forged letter should shake them, for the day of the Lord has not yet come and the man of lawlessness must first appear. Far from leaving them paralyzed, this hope calls them to stand firm in the truth, to be established in every good work and word, and—when some have stopped working in their excitement—to settle down, labor quietly, and never grow weary of doing good. Through it all runs the faithfulness of the Lord, who will establish his people and guard them from the evil one.
