The Book of 2 John

Second John is a brief, personal letter from “the elder” to a chosen lady and her children, yet it carries a weight far larger than its size. In a few sentences it binds together the two things the church can never separate—truth and love. We are to walk in the truth, love one another as we have been commanded from the beginning, and at the same time watch carefully for deceivers who deny that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. Love without truth drifts into sentimentality; truth without love hardens into harshness. This little letter holds them together and points us to Christ, in whom grace and truth are perfectly joined.
