The Book of 1 Peter
First Peter is a letter of living hope written to scattered believers facing hostility and trial. Peter reminds exiles in a hard world that they have been born again to an inheritance that can never fade, made into a chosen race and royal priesthood, and called to holy, beautiful lives that silence slander and win outsiders. Again and again he points to Christ, who suffered for sins once for all, leaving us an example and bringing us home to the Shepherd of our souls. Suffering, Peter insists, is not strange but a sharing in Christ's own sufferings, the path to a glory that will not fade when the chief Shepherd appears.
